Supermoon

 
We got treated to a lunar treat Saturday night with the supermoon.
Of course, we grabbed cameras and headed out the door. We both took pictures. I had some places in mind around Eldersburg to get some images and the first stop was on a hill overlooking some stores, so there was light in the foreground and the moon.
I also had to visit Liberty Reservoir, where I have shot full moons in the past.
The moon appeared larger because it was the closest it has been to earth in 18 years. The full moon was about 221,567 miles from earth. It is usually about 238.000 miles.
The phase supermoon comes from when the the moon is closer than usual and occurs at the same time as a full moon.
To regular followers of my blog, you know I love to take pictures of the moon. The names of the full moons always interest me and the March full moon is known as the full worm moon. The name comes from the ground warming and the earthworms move around and the robins reappear.

Bird Watching

One of the things Shirley and I like to do is watch our feathered friends. Everything from Robins to Bluebirds. As small as a Tufted Titmouse is, they are a thrill to watch them grab a peanut. We have feeders in front of the house which we can see from the window. They are fun to watch, especially when the squirrels show up. The furry fellows were adapt at emptying the feeders. So, Shirley kept her eyes open and came across some squirrel proof feeders. Now they climb over the feeders, but can't get the food. The squirrels are busy looking for food under the feeders, expect when Shirley puts peanuts out. One day, last week we watched one squirrel clean the plate of nuts before the others figured out what he we doing. We got to laughing as the other squirrels started digging to get the nuts he spent time hiding. Most of the images were taken around the yard in the past week. The owl was out back about a month ago, the rest were in the front yard. Last year, we took part in the Great Backyard Bird Count. This year's count is set for Feb. 18-21. The Sunshine State

We had to make a fast trip to Florida for a family funeral. What a contrast between Maryland and Florida. While the ground was white up north when we left, robins were out, trees had buds and many other sights that spring was on the way, down south. The Spanish moss makes for good images and I can never pass up a full moon. It was around 32 at night which made for cold mornings, but on the day we left to come home it got up to 68 degrees. There was a message in the back window of a car, which brought the Nancy Grace Show to mind.
