The Carroll County Cross Country meet was Thursday at South Carroll High School. I had a few reasons to go; one was Shirley's nephew runs for Winters Mill. Another reason was the match between Century's Maura Linde and Winters Mill's Hannah Oneda. In the boys’ varsity race, Winters Mill upset Westminster to capture the county crown. The girl’s race saw Oneda jump out early and run to the girl’s title. Linda had won three titles and was running to be the first person to win four, but she had to settle for second. Oneda cheered on the Falcon runners before putting on her running shoes. As you get see when she is cheering, she uses the new foot gloves for shoes. During the boys race I had a flash back. Over 30 years ago I was the Sports Editor of a county publication. I saw someone running and cheering during the race and looked and there was Westminster Alumni, David Weisgerber. He was one of the stars of a great Owl team in the 70s. He was there to cheer for his son, who laced up for Winters Mill. Next up for the runners is the regional meet. The images are from the boys’ varsity, girls’ varsity and boy’s junior varsity races.
