Seeing

This is a post about seeing something, but not seeing it. Right now you are saying "What does he mean?" I have driven past a spot on Klee's Mill Road in Carroll County hundreds of times. When I was working, I drove by the spot at least twice-a-day. So Wednesday I ran an errand and on the way back a light went off over my head as I saw a post and Queen Anne's lace. I shot the image then, but knew it could be better. I knew that the day after it rained the sky would be a deep blue which would make a great background. I know the images in my head never turn out the same in reality, sometimes they are better. After shooting the picture, bless her heart for all Shirley heard about for a short while, she didn't tell me to change the subject. While at soccer practice I watched clouds move in. We went to Safeway after practice. I had the image of the fence post and flowers in my mind. So I figured I would have to wait for a rainy day or did I. Dusk was setting in as we left the store and there was a break in the clouds. I took a chance and drove to the fence post. I was rewarded with a nice sunset, but had to work fast as the light was fading. Shirley didn't question what we were doing as I spent about five minutes shooting the image vertically and horizontally. I shot the first images vertically, but I believe the horizontal one works best with the sunset. I am happy with the image, but will return after it rains and will also shoot another sunset.

NASCAR Family

One of the hallmarks of NASCAR is family and nowhere is that more evident than on pit road on race day. During pre-race ceremonies families can be seen together like at Pocono. It is fun to see the interaction of children with their father before he climbs in the car to go to work. Seen here are Elliott Sadler, Joe Nemechek, David Gilliland, Scott Speed, Matt Kenseth, Sam Hornish Jr., Kevin Harvick and Greg Biffle.

A Look at Pocono

I know it's been a week since the NASCAR race at Pocono. I have some images from behind the scenes in garage and around the track that I wanted to share. I love to shoot at Pocono and not just the racing action but also scenic photos from around the area.

ARCA First Victory

Saturday was a busy day at Pocono Raceway as the truck series and ARCA ran races. There were two first time winners as Elliott Sadler captured the truck race and Robb Brent took the checkered flag in the ARCA race. It was his first victory and enjoyed his time in victory lane. According to the announcer, it was his first race his mother missed; she called while he was in victory lane. I enjoy shooting ARCA every year at Pocono. I like the faces at qualifying for ARCA as can be seen here including Steve Fox, Brian Kaltreider, Tom Berte, Chase Mattioli, Will Kimmel and his uncle Frank Kimmel. Making only his third ARCA start was Brandon McReynolds, who finished 10th. He is the son of NASCAR announcer Larry McReynolds.

Night Out

Tuesday night was the annual National Night Out Against Crime. The event offers a chance for communities to come together against crime and drugs.
Eldersburg was host for the second consecutive year. The event is held on the parking lot at Carrolltowne Mall.
The Freedom Area Citizens Council is the driving force behind the Night Out in Eldersburg.
Many county groups like Carroll Hospital Center, Sykesville Fire Department, Carroll County Sheriff Department, Lions Club and many others offer information about services available.
Mark the first week in August on the calendar for the annual Night Out.
